About Us
SJR Gallery began as a labor of love. After college, I joined the Peace Corps and was sent to Ecuador and quickly became enchanted with the Ecuadorian people, culture and beautiful landscape.
Fast forward 25 years....I returned to my beloved Ecuador to scope out the country as a possible place to retire. I immediately felt home again; familiar places, music blaring, smiling faces.
As fate would have it, I met some wonderful artisans, Esthela and Alejandro, in the market town of Otavalo, where they sell their wares each day in the "Plaza de Ponchos", the largest Indiginous Market in South America. They "adopted" me and I became part of their family.
Our goal is to support Indigenous artisans in the Ecuadorian Andes and provide a market for those goods. Plus, I get to visit often!
I have recently returned from a visit to Turkey, where I met more fabulous artisans who are keeping their crafts alive. I have added a few of their unique and handmade items to my collection.
